Wix or a managed website: easy to start, harder to scale across a service area
Wix is the most forgiving website builder there is, and for a two-person cleaning business that needs a presence this week, that counts for a lot. You drag, you type, you publish, and nobody has to know what a DNS record is. The limits appear later: a builder that renders through its own editor runtime carries weight on every page, a drag-and-drop canvas gets awkward once the same section has to exist on thirty town pages, and every future change is still an evening you spend in the editor instead of on the schedule.
Point 01
What Wix is genuinely best at
Removing every excuse not to have a website. Domain, hosting, SSL, templates and an editor anyone can use are one purchase and one afternoon. For an owner who has been meaning to sort the website out for two years, that is not nothing, and the result is almost always better than the nothing it replaced. If your whole requirement is a good-looking five-page site with a contact form, Wix will do it and you will not need us.
Point 02
Why a drag-and-drop canvas fights a service area
Local search for a cleaning company means many near-identical pages that differ in the details that matter: this town, this property type, this drive time, these questions. On a visual canvas, each of those is a page you lay out by hand, and each change to the shared parts is a change you repeat by hand. That is fine at five pages and unsustainable at thirty. Our pages come out of your data, so the shared parts stay consistent and the specific parts are the only thing anyone writes.
Point 03
Speed on the phone in the driveway
Builder platforms ship the machinery that makes the editor work, on every page, whether a page uses it or not. On a good connection you will not notice. On a phone with two bars outside a house, you will, and so will the customer who goes back to the results page. We build static pages with almost no client-side script and guarantee a 90+ PageSpeed score on mobile and desktop, re-measured whenever we change something. If you run ads, that matters twice: landing page experience is one of the components of Google's ad quality rating, and higher quality ads typically cost less per click.
Point 04
The part nobody costs in: your evenings
The real price of a self-built site is not the subscription. It is the Tuesday night you spend updating prices on eight pages, the season you forget to take the winter banner down, and the town page you never got round to making. A managed site prices that back out: you send the change, it goes live within a few working days, and five of those are included every month with no limit on how much goes into one.
Side by side
Wix and a managed ServiceProSites site, on twelve points
Written to be fair rather than flattering. Where a point genuinely goes the other way, it says so.
| What you are comparing | Wix | ServiceProSites |
|---|---|---|
| Speed and Core Web Vitals | Carries the editor runtime on every page; heavier with apps installed | Custom-coded static pages, 90+ PageSpeed guaranteed on mobile and desktop |
| SEO control | Good page-level tools for a small site | Architecture, canonicals, internal linking and crawl rules designed for a service area |
| Schema and JSON-LD | Some automatic, more through apps or custom code | Generated per page type from your business data, matched to what the page shows |
| AEO and GEO readiness | Whatever you write, with no structural help | Answer-first sections, visible FAQ blocks, llms.txt and consistent entity naming |
| Hosting and security | Included in the subscription and genuinely hands-off | Global edge hosting with SSL, CDN and DDoS protection, included and managed |
| Maintenance burden | Low technically, high in your hours: every edit is you | None on your side. Send the change, we make it |
| Who does the work | You, on an evening | Our team, in a few working days, five requests a month included |
| Content and blog | Blog included; writing it is on you | Researched, cited articles published on a schedule |
| Design quality | Template-led and consistent, limited by the canvas | A design system built for your services and carried across every page |
| Accessibility and compliance pages | Some tooling; the policies and the consent gating are yours to add | Privacy, terms, cookie policy with real consent gating, and a WCAG-minded build |
| Cost model | Low monthly subscription plus apps plus your time | One monthly fee, one build fee invoiced after launch, nothing itemised |
| Lock-in and ownership | Site lives in the platform; content is not portable as a site | Domain in your name, content yours, transferred free if you leave |

Being straight about it
When each one is the right choice
Choose Wix when
- You are one or two people, you need a site this week, and budget is the binding constraint.
- Five pages will cover it and you do not expect that to change.
- You like building it yourself and want to keep control of every edit.
- You are testing whether the business works before investing in it.
Choose a managed site when
- You cover several towns and want to be found in each of them.
- The site has not been updated since you built it, because updating it is your job.
- You advertise, and a slow landing page is costing you twice.
- You want articles, structured data and hosting handled rather than added to your list.
How to move, or how to run both
Moving off Wix without dropping what ranks
We take your existing copy, job photos and pricing and rebuild them into a structure built for a service area rather than a canvas. Every current address is mapped and redirected permanently to its closest equivalent, so the visibility you have carries over. Your Wix site stays live until you approve the new one, and your domain switches last. If your domain is registered through Wix, we point it or transfer it, whichever you prefer.
From companies who switched
What changed for operators who moved to a managed site
Quote requests routed into dispatch
The quote form drops straight into the software our dispatchers already use, so a request does not sit in an inbox waiting for someone to notice it. We stopped losing the people who filled the form in at nine at night.

We finally have a page for every service and every town we cover instead of one page trying to say everything at once. Crew leads send a customer a direct link now rather than explaining the whole business on the phone.

Turnover pricing changes between seasons and our old site could never keep up. Now a revision request is done in days rather than whenever a developer had a free afternoon, so the site never quotes last season.

Before you decide
Questions about Wix
01Is Wix bad for SEO?
No. Wix gives a small site the page-level basics it needs. What it does not give you is a structure for dozens of service and town pages, control over the performance budget, or anybody but you to maintain it, and those are what decide local search once the site is past five pages.
02Can I move my Wix content to a new site?
The words and the photos come across. The site itself does not export as a site, because it is built inside the editor. We rebuild the structure and bring the content into it, which is usually an improvement rather than a loss.
03What about my Wix domain?
If it is registered through Wix we either point it at the new site or transfer it to a registrar in your name, whichever you prefer. Either way the domain ends up yours.
04Will my site be down during the move?
No. The new site is built alongside the Wix one, and the domain only switches once you have approved it. There is no window where a customer searching your name finds nothing.
05I paid for Wix apps. Do I lose that functionality?
Tell us which apps you actually use. Most of what a cleaning company installs, forms, booking, galleries and reviews, is part of the build. Anything genuinely specialised we will tell you about honestly before you commit.
06Is a managed site more expensive than Wix?
The subscription is, and the comparison is not like for like. Wix is software you operate. This is software plus the design, the writing, the publishing, the structured data, the hosting and somebody doing all of it. Compare it to Wix plus the hours you spend, not to Wix alone.
07How many pages will my new site have?
As many as your service area justifies: a page per service crossed with a page per town your crews actually reach. Adding one later is a change request, not a project.
08Can I still make small edits myself?
You will not need to and you will not have a login, which is the point. Send the change instead. Five a month are included, any size, turned around within a few working days.
